Cora Lynn Cascades

Lorne, VIC

About Cora Lynn Cascades

Distance from Melbourne - 2hr 10min drive

Distance from Waurn Ponds - 1hr 10min drive

Facilities - you pull into blanket leaf picnic area, which has toilets, camp BBQs and some picnic chairs and tables, there is also a camp grounds slightly down the track.

Accessibility - I managed easily in an i30

I managed to convince one of the gals from uni, Liv, to come along with me today.

After a bit of a rushed start, we decided we'd head to Lorne and check out a few sites!

After looking at Erskine falls, we decided to try and find Cora Lynn cascades. After dodgy instructions from Goole Maps (again...) we found it! We had to pull into blanket leaf picnic area. The grounds were very clean and tidy, lovely little info sign at the top as usual.

We definitely underestimated how long it was going to take us to walk the 4.5km return trip... but it was lovely! beautiful bushland and we had some fog, which made it very picturesque!

The path was quite slippery and sloshy in some sections, which did lead to some falls.. but we still had fun!

You can access Erskine Falls from this section as well, not entirely sure how far that walk is though.

There were lovely little bridges which had small creeks underneath, which gave us motivation and kept us going towards the cascades.

Once at the cascades, we explored a little bit further. You can walk right onto the side, and climb down into another section. We were cautious as it was wet and slippery, and also due to time.

We walked down to the 2nd bit, which was a bit of an awkward step, I sat on my bum and slid down... then climbed through some trees, kinda on a path, but not really, to get to the bottom. It would be absolutely gorgeous on a summers day, and we both said we'd like to return to see the difference.

We rushed back as quick as we could (we were absolutely drained and neither of us had a drink bottle... smart...) and the sun was soon to be going down, so we pushed on! Made it back to the car before dusk though which was great! Then had a cruisy drive back home through Lorne and Torquay.

Packing tips

comfortable clothes, suitable shoes

Things I wish I had taken

A drink bottle and my new hiking boots! (We were in a rush..)

Things I could have left at home

Nothing, we didn't really take anything, phone and car keys was all I had on me

Costs including entry, site costs and food (if camping)

Free!

Items/equipment needed

Comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes

Sights in nearby towns, attractions and things to do

There are plenty of lookouts and waterfalls nearby, we visited another on this trip as well which I've already posted about, Erskine Falls. We also passed a high ropes course which looked super fun! And found the festival site for Falls Festival. I would love to spend some more time in Lorne, so I'm sure I'll be posting more things in the future!

Things I may do differently next time

Actually use my hiking boots, and bring a drink bottle - something I'm not very good at...I would also take off earlier in the day rather than the afternoon, we cut it pretty close walking back from the cascades with dusk approaching.

Until my next adventure,

Alex
